We all make decisions and we all have problems to solve. And we can only make decisions or solve problems based on the knowledge we have personally and within our sphere of influence. There is, of course, the internet, but you should ask yourself how much of what you’re reading is truth and how much of it is opinion? You could say the same thing about this very article, am I right? Well, what if I told you there is a way to make the right decision every time and solve every problem you come across?
When it comes to decision making and problem solving, we automatically impose a limit on ourselves by relying on what we know, or what we think we know. The limit is set by a number of factors.
- Our own understanding
- Our sphere of influence
- Our ability to research
- Time
- Money
- Resources
There’s more, I’m sure, but the point is that you limit yourself by relying solely on what we can see around us in any given situation.
In Proverbs 3:5-6, Solomon tells us, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths”. It’s not our understanding that gets the job done, it’s Gods. I’ve witnessed it first hand and heard from countless people about this commandment at work.
Here’s an example: I was working on a wordpress website once and it kept breaking when I would add and activate any plugin. I had no idea why and I was getting really frustrated. I looked all over the internet for answers and tried everything. Nothing worked. So I sat back, looked to God and said, “I have no idea what do here and I could use some help”. Then it came to me, that a little piece of code in the core functions.php file had been changed by a plugin I had added a day ago. THAT was the culprit. I saw in my mind exactly where that line of code was and how to fix it. I would have NEVER figured that out on my own, even going through the code line by line. And that’s just one time God has helped me personally. Who knew that God knew how to write code? Ha!
No matter what situation you are in, no matter how big or small the problem, no matter how tough the decision, why rely on your own understanding when the creator of the universe himself WANTS to help you?
If you don’t believe any of this, I’m OK with that. It gives me the advantage (sly grin). I will say this though, that if more of us relied on God to help us make decisions and solve problems, think how far we would come and how much quicker we would get there. And we could do it together without trying to undermine each other and get the upper hand. Trust God.
We would absolutely LOVE to hear about the times God showed himself strong on your behalf! Let us know!
